6 Tips for End of Summer Skin Care
As the seasons change, so do our skin needs. Summer has most likely taken a toll on all skin types, no matter how careful you were about sunscreen or chlorine exposure. And the cool, dry air heralding the arrival of autumn brings with it its own skin troubles. It’s important to take the time to properly treat your skin and start up a new skin regimen geared towards both, healing the damage already done and protecting future damage.
Here are some things you can do to keep your skin looking its best.
1. Exfoliate. Exfoliate a few times a week. It helps slough off dead, dull skin cells as well as reveal smooth skin underneath. By removing the layer of dead cells, the absorption of other skincare products is improved. It also helps brighten your complexion and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
2. Hydrate and moisturize. During the summer, the sun, wind, and chlorine take away a large amount of water from your skin. Now it is time to recover and bring moisturizer back to dehydrated skin. Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser twice a day, follow up with an anti-ageing moisturizer and drink plenty of water. Doing this will help to provide more water for your skin from both inside and out.
3. Eat healthily. Eat a lot of fresh and organic fruits and vegetables. The healthier you eat, the healthier you will look and feel. Keep an eye out for green tea, pomegranate, and fruits with lots of Vitamin C. Antioxidants help protect your skin from sun damage and boost collagen production.
4. Get enough sleep. Sleep allows your body to recover and restore. Not having enough sleep will speed up the ageing process which can be seen in the appearance of your skin. Lack of sleep affects us more deeply and shows more prominently on our faces – lacklustre complexions, dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles.
5. Exercise. Get outdoors and exercise. Working out helps you reduce stress and get in shape. Exercise is good for your heart, lungs and the appearance of your skin. Exercise increases blood flow which helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. Having a healthy lifestyle makes you feel and look younger.
6. Continue to use sunscreen. Sun damage accumulates over time, and just because your skin isn’t burning does not mean it isn’t being damaged, increasing your skin cancer risk and external signs of ageing. Sunscreen should be used regularly no matter the time of year.
