5 Acts of Kindness For Mother’s Day
From childhood to adulthood our mothers consistently demonstrate what it means to be truly giving and kind. To show Mum how much you appreciate her, why not plan something meaningful for Mother’s Day. Instead of searching for gifts, look for opportunities to show kindness in other ways. Research shows that being kind to others increases our own levels of happiness as well as theirs. So to help you make your Mum or Mother figure feel loved and appreciated, here are 5 kind things you can do for your Mum on Mother’s Day - or any day of the year.
Write a Thank-You Letter
When was the last time you sent someone a handwritten letter? Write your Mum a letter to tell her how much she means to you. Studies show that writing a delivering a gratitude letter doesn’t just give the recipient a mood boost; it can also raise your level of happiness. Moreover, the effect is even more powerful when you deliver it in person and read it aloud to the recipient - in this case, Mum.
Make a Photo Album or Frame a Favourite Photo
Put together an album of some of Mum’s favourite photos. These could be photos of your childhood, photos of Mum with her favourite people (you, right?) or simply some memories you know she’ll enjoy seeing often.
Spend The Day With Her
Time is one of the greatest gifts of all, so be intentional and spend Mother's Day with your mama bear. Most moms just want to spend time with their children, recalling memories and making new ones. We know life can get hectic and so does she, so going the extra mile and spending the day with your mom is a meaningful way to show you care.
Cook For Her
Chances are your mom has made you many meals over the years. Return the favour and cook her favourite meal this Mother's Day! It doesn't matter if it is breakfast in bed, a picnic lunch, or a candlelit dinner, being her personal chef will let her relax and enjoy the day. If you're not the best cook, you can still help out by doing chores around the house, so she has no (well... fewer) worries.
Offer Home or Childcare Help
Reach out to an overwhelmed mom friend and offer to vacuum her carpets or fold her laundry. Or offer to take her kids to the park for a couple of hours so she can have kid-free time to clean – or to rest!
