ipl photo rejuvenation
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photo Rejuvenation is a non-invasive way to treat skin damage and signs of ageing. It dramatically improves the appearance of broken capillaries (including rosacea), redness, age spots, sun-induced freckles, and pigmentation, and can be incredibly effective in the treatment of acne.
It can treat imperfections anywhere on the face and body.
How does it work?
IPL uses light to absorb melanin (the dark pigment in your hair and skin) and haemoglobin (the red colour in your blood vessels). The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood or the melanin. The body’s natural processes then remove the injured tissue, leaving your skin with a more even and youthful appearance.
What can I expect during treatment?
Your therapist will personalise the treatment to suit your individual condition and skin type. But here’s how it usually works:
A cold gel is applied, and you’ll be given dark glasses to protect your eyes.
The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently rested on your skin, and you’ll be notified by your therapist when the pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band, but it only lasts a fraction of a second.
The treatment is relatively quick – a full face takes only 20 minutes. After your treatment, you’ll look like you’ve had a good workout at the gym. The flushing and redness will only last a few hours, and if your skin is quite loose, you may experience some swelling.
If you have any brown spots or uneven pigmentation, they’ll turn slightly darker after your treatment and eventually fall away or shed after a week or so.
To speed up the healing time and reduce redness and swelling, we highly recommend booking an LED Light Therapy treatment post-IPL – you can add this on to your treatment for just $55.
