papamoa skin clinic chemical peels

There are lots of ways to show your skin TLC, from adjusting your diet to wearing SPF daily. You can also boost your skincare routine with professional treatments, like chemical peels.

While the name might sound a little intimidating, a facial peel is actually a very relaxing treatment!

How do peels work?

A carefully balanced formula is applied to your face, hands or neck, creating a reaction which makes the outer layer of dead skin cells start to release and lift off (resulting in a mild ‘peeling’ look). Underneath, you’ll find a smoother, brighter and more revitalised complexion.

Peels are great for treating fine lines, sun damage and wrinkles. The right formula can also minimise the appearance of age spots and freckles, as well as mild scarring.

What can I expect during treatment?

During the peel itself, you may experience a slight tingling or prickling sensation (like pins and needles), but no pain of any kind.

After your treatment, your therapist will give you some aftercare tips (like using a quality moisturiser and SPF).

Your skin might feel slightly irritated after your peel, but it won’t last long. You might experience some mild flaking as your dead skin begins to lift over the next 2-3 days. Your skin will then continue to soften over the next 5-7 days before the full effects of the peel are visible.

With a good skincare regime and regular peel treatments, you can potentially look forward to seeing improvements in your skin for years to come!

Are there any side effects?

Any negative effects are usually down to poor aftercare or choosing the wrong skincare products post-treatment.

This is where expert advice from your therapist comes in handy – we’ll be able to guide you through the recommended aftercare procedure and answer any questions you may have.

To determine what type of peel would be best for you, book a consultation with one of our skin therapists.
